At least 87 Norwegians have been killed abroad since the turn of the millennium
On Wednesday 31 March, 63-year-old Svein Ingar Håkonsen was found killed with a bullet hole in his head.
When Kripos soon presents its annual overview of murders in 2021, Håkonsen’s case will not be mentioned.
The retired taxi driver from Sandefjord was killed abroad.
The Norwegian authorities have no overview of ordinary citizens who are killed outside Norway’s borders, or established routines for following up the investigation in the country where the crime took place.
A survey conducted by Stavanger Aftenblad shows that at least 87 civilian Norwegians have been killed since the year 2000 without the killings being registered in any Norwegian statistics. The survey reveals that more than every tenth murder that affects relatives in Norway is never taken into account by the Norwegian authorities.
