“As the cold, dry Arctic air mass (especially) still persists, it began to cool significantly again shortly in the afternoon,” meteorologists said on the social network.
The temperature at the Poprad and Podolínec stations dropped to minus 20 degrees Celsius on Sunday shortly before 5 pm. It is close to this temperature at other stations.
At the stations Ružomberok, Červený Kláštor, Plaveč, Jarabina, Oravská Polhora, Novoť, Rabča, Zuberec, before 6 pm, it was minus 17 to minus 19 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures can drop to minus 24 degrees at night
The temperature in some parts of Slovakia may drop to minus 24 degrees Celsius during the night, supported by the SHMÚ, which issued a first- and second-degree warning in this regard.
Meteorologists expect the lowest air temperature minus 20 to minus 24 degrees Celsius in the Banská Bystrica, Košice, Prešov and Žilina regions. “Heavy frost poses a danger to human health and physical activities outdoors,” said SHMÚ, adding that the risk of damage to the body is high.
A first-level warning applies to the Trenčín region. The temperature in some places can drop to minus 15 to minus 19 degrees Celsius. Again, meteorologists warn that low temperatures pose a potential danger to human health and outdoor physical activity.
