Portugal with 13 more deaths and 3,732 new covid-19 cases in 24 hours

Portugal accounts this Sunday 13 more deaths and 3,732 new cases of covid-19, according to the daily report of the General Directorate of Health (DGS).
The daily epidemiological bulletin of the DGS reveals an increase in the number of hospitalized people, counting this Sunday 878 admissions, 21 more than on Saturday, and 151 in intensive care units, less one in the last 24 hours.
Of the 13 deaths, five occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, three in the Center, two in the North, one in Alentejo, Algarve, Madeira.
After three consecutive days with more than 10.000 daily cases, Portugal registers in the last 24 hours 3,732 infections.
Portugal registers a new maximum with more than 620,000 tests up to 19 in two days
Portugal once again achieved two new maximum daily test results for covid-19 on Thursday and Friday, with 620,000 tests carried out, revealed today the National Health Institute (INSA) Ricardo Jorge.
“Portugal reached, on the 23rd and 24th of December, two new maximums of daily testing for covid-19, with more than 620,000 diagnostic tests performed in just two days”, refers the INSA, adding that the positivity rate was of 4.6% “, refers the INSA, in a statement, which cites data from the testing task force.
According to the INSA, from the total of tests carried out, around 132,000 were tested TAAN / PCR and more than 488,000 Rapid Tests of Antigen (TRAg) for professional use.
These numbers do not include self-tests.
That body says that on December 23, there were close to 360,000 tests, a new maximum of daily testing, and on December 24, more than 260,000 tests, which was the second day with more tests carried out since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.
The INSA advances that, up to the data, more than 25 million diagnostic tests for covid-19 have already been carried out in Portugal, approximately 16.2 million TAAN/PCR tests and about 8.9 million TRAg for professional use.
“Between December 1 and 24, more than 3.7 million diagnostic tests were carried out with covid-19, with a daily average of about 155,000 tests, of which more than 1.1 million were TAAN / PCR and close. 2.6 million were TRAg for professional use”, he indicates, stressing that December is” the month with the most tests carried out since the beginning of the pandemic”.
The INSA also reports that Portugal registered, in December, daily testing numbers in excess of 100,000 tests in 19 of the 24 days already counted, having surpassed the threshold of 200,000 daily tests in four days.
