Braunau district: 16-year-old seriously injured in a firecracker explosion
The momentous accident occurred on Stefanitag in Eggelsberg (Upper Austria) on the border with the Salzburg Flachgau region. The boy suffered serious injuries in both hands and was flown to the UKH Salzburg.
A 17-year-old owner of a test driver’s license from the Braunau district was driving his car with two 16-year-old friends on Ibmer-Moos-Landesstraße on Stefanitag. At around 2:45 p.m., the 17-year-old stopped the car at an intersection in the Eggelsberg municipality because one of the two 16-year-olds who was traveling with him wanted to detonate a firecracker. The youngster got out and tried to light the fuse – suddenly the firecracker exploded and seriously injured the 16-year-old on both hands. After the first aid by the emergency doctor, the boy was flown by rescue helicopter to the accident hospital in Salzburg.
