Bart Mesuere: “Contamination figures will start in the coming days, first in Brussels and among people in their twenties”
The number of infections with the coronavirus is currently still, but will start in the coming days. Bart Mesuere, researcher at Ghent University, reports this.
“Last week (from 15/12 to 21/12) there were 49,076 new confirmed infections, which is 27,849, 36 percent less than the week before,” said Mesuere. “Meanwhile, the omikron variant is responsible for half of the confirmed infections. In the coming days, the infection numbers will start again. we see that first in Brussels and among the people in their twenties, where the decline is already slowing down.”

Hospitals and vaccinations
“An average of 150 new Covid patients are admitted to hospital every day, which is 32 percent less than last week. In total, there are now 2,053 (-28%) Covid patients, of which 650 (-15%) are in intensive care. The number of deaths drops to an average of 35.7 per day.”
“There were close to 4 million booster shots, with a noticeable acceleration from last week. In Flanders, 38 percent of the population already received a booster, in Wallonia 32 percent, and in Brussels 20 percent.”
