What is it like to have Rúben Dias and João Cancelo in the same team. Is it continuing to see everything in red and white?
– In Portugal yes, but not here in England. Here it is bluer… We are the three red and white in Portugal and blue and white in England. I played with Cancelo seven years in the formation of Benfica, from 12 to 19. I even trained with Rúben a few times, but he is three years younger. But I remember him very well then. It’s always good to be with them.
In fact, I experienced a similar situation when I arrived in Monaco. At that time, at an early stage, I was lucky to meet João Moutinho and Ricardo Carvalho who helped me a lot in adapting to the club, as it was my first experience in Portugal. I had only played for Benfica until then and having caught João and Ricardo treated me a lot. There are days when you’re more grumpy and having people you don’t know very well help you through those more boring moments helps. It’s great to have Reuben and Cancelo here at City every day.
When you play in England, in the best championship in the world, in one of the best clubs in the world, you don’t think about going anywhere else. Do you agree?
-It depends. Right now I think it’s the best championship in the world, I think it’s the country where the level is highest. There was a Spanish dominance a few years ago, which lasted a long time. I think that at the moment the English teams are the strongest in the world and therefore it is always good to be where the best football is played. Then there are personal decisions that also count, such as being closer to the family, etc. But I confess that one of my dreams was to be part of the best championship in the world.
