According to one of the most beautiful legends of the place, it is said that at the death of the brave Sandru, who fell in the fights with the Tartars, the tears of his fiancée, the beautiful goddess of the forests, Nemira, turned into real pearls rolling in crystal clear water. Slănic brook, of the fast and foamy waves carried them over the thresholds of rocks and ridges. At the place where each pearl stopped, a spring with mineral water gushed to the surface, the first of which was discovered around 1801, by the serdar Mihalachi Spiridon, when he was on a deer hunt…

Special qualities of the climate, associated with a well-known therapeutic value of mineral waters, favored the creation and development of the second therapeutic profile of the resort, after the digestive one, namely, the respiratory profile, which made him another medical personality, Prof. Dr. Ion Predescu-Rion, pulmonologist and bronchologist of great prestige in the ’30s, to make the following statement: “The Slavic of Moldova can be considered as having no rival among the spas of Europe.”

Indeed, the resort of Slănic-Moldova occupies one of the first places in Europe, especially in terms of the variety of composition and concentration of its mineral waters. The fact that springs of such varied types spring on a relatively small area, sometimes right next to each other and yet different in terms of healing effects, is a balneological feature rarely found both in our country and abroad. This is one of the reasons why the resort of Slăneşti can be considered more endowed by nature than the famous resorts Karlovy-Vary, Vichy, Montecanini or Baden-Baden, having no correspondent in similar profiles than another state reputation in the Czech Republic: Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad) . And one of the practical consequences of the diversity of its mineral waters is that, according to specialists, treatment methods have been established for most gastric, intestinal, hepatic and nutritional diseases and, at the same time, for total functional states of the digestive tract: hypo. or hyperacidity, hypo or hypermotility, etc.

And here, for the first time in the history of the resort town, following the settlement of disputes with landowners and buildings in the area, taken over privately after 1989, the mineral springs became public property to local authorities, an undeniable success that opens the path of investments in their development and modernization.

Moreover, the 11 mineral springs from the more than twenty resources available to the resort were restarted in mid-October (even by Saint Pious Parascheva), following an extensive process of redevelopment of the entire mineral area which is taking place since along the whole. on the right bank of the river Slănic, at a distance of about two kilometers, from the confluence of Slănic with Slănicelul (550 m. altitude) and to the confluence of Slănic with the brook Scărișoara, where the tourist point and the spring “300 stairs” (480 ). m. altitude).
