Scheinherr (Prague itself): The Constitutional Court has defended the city in a dispute over the restriction of Segway traffic

The capital’s court has ruled in a dispute over the ban on vehicles in certain parts of the metropolis. It is the third court in a row to reject the lawsuit of the Segway Association of the Czech Republic, because it does not agree with the change, which was several years old.
According to the court, the regulation of vehicle traffic in the wider center is not unconstitutional with regard to pedestrian safety. By restricting the movement of segway vehicles, Prague responded to citizens’ complaints, especially in the city center, and the city districts subsequently joined the comments.
“The Constitutional Court ruling confirms that it is right for municipalities to determine what they want to operate on their territory, or when they need to regulate traffic in their territory and thus protect the health of their residents or visitors,” says Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Mayor. m of Prague for transport.
Segway electric cars will no longer be encountered by Praguers in the historic and wider city center. Following a lawsuit before the Municipal Court in Prague and a subsequent cassation complaint to the Supreme Administrative Court, the Constitutional Court also ruled in the capital, stating that restrictions on vehicles are not unconstitutional and that bans on Segways enter certain parts of the metropolis due to the possibility of danger to pedestrians.
The capital adopted regulation in 2016 following complaints from citizens and city districts about problems walking on the sidewalks where she drove and clashes with pedestrians who were in danger. The restrictions do not apply to the entire capital, but only to the area of the Prague Monument Reserve and the densely populated wider center with a large number of pedestrians.
