Mostly quiet Christmas Eve in the canton of St. Gallen – region
ST. GALLEN – The St.Gallen canton police can look back on a “relatively quiet Christmas Eve”, as it says in a message. Nonetheless, she had to go out to witness multiple break-ins, family conflicts, and two fires.
The St.Gallen canton police were reported four break-ins on Christmas Eve, as they announced on Saturday. In Mels, a carpenter’s workshop was broken into and cash was stolen at an unknown amount.
A break-in in a restaurant and an apartment at the same address was reported in Goldach. The unknown perpetrators were able to steal cash and jewelry worth several thousand francs and left several hundred francs in property damage.
In Rorschach they had to move into a single-family house because of a break-in, in which jewelry of currently unknown value is likely to have been stolen. The property damage amounts to around 2000 francs.
Several suspected perpetrators caught
Shortly before midnight, a break-in into an apartment in St. Margrethen was reported. The residents were sleeping while the perpetrators got into the apartment. An immediately initiated manhunt with the use of a person tracking dog was successful according to the announcement. The service dog was able to track the crime scene to the train station, where two people fled when they saw the police. The two people could be stopped and arrested.
Two policemen in Vilters were also successful. During a patrol, a person strikes them and objects die behind a hidden building. Despite attempting to escape, the male was stopped. As it turned out, the 16-year-old was alleged to have committed a crime and wanted to hide it. Initial indications indicate that the secured objects stem from several cases of theft or break-ins. The young person will have to answer to the youth attorney.
Advent wreath caught fire
In Oberuzwil and Schwarzenbach, two fires went off lightly. A fire broke out in a sauna in Oberuzwil. This could be deleted by the homeowner. A member of the fire brigade carried out a check and was able to give the all-clear. An Advent wreath caught fire in Schwarzenbach. However, he could be deleted by the resident apartment and carried to the balcony.
Conflicts in several families
Move out in a total of nine fallen police patrols due to interpersonal or personal problems. In all cases, the situation was temporarily reassured for Christmas Eve. The persons concerned were made aware of existing offers of help or were given medical care. Where necessary, reports are sent to the public prosecutor’s office or reports to the social welfare authorities.
Wrong police officers on duty
Apparently fake police officers were also on duty. The St.Gallen canton police have received four reports of attempted fraud in which the people called fortunately noticed that the story told was not true. “Even at Christmas, that the police never collect cash and valuables from private individuals for safekeeping,” emphasized the canton police in the message.
