This is one of the most emblematic cribs in Lisbon
Tin 480 images, it was built by Queen D. Maria I, in 1781, and took about 5 years to complete. Today, it is one of the most emblematic cribs in Lisbon and can be visited in the Basilica da Estrela.
Designed by Machado de Castro, it is one of the greatest nativity scenes of its time.
According to a publication made on the networks by the Câmara de Lisboa, a mark the square, the crib is “consisting of a structure in wood and virgin cork from Alentejo, in homage to Our Lady’s virginity” and “includes the figure of the Child, from Maria and S. José, from the Reis Magos, the shepherds and the people, people from different social strata, who recall the daily life of the 18th century”.
