“We have been living in the midst of a pandemic for almost two years. We have not given up and we must not be discouraged at this stage.

He underlines that a collective effort is still necessary, that each citizen must take his own responsibilities and that solidarity remains crucial. The Head of State that Luxembourg has already demonstrated on several occasions its ability to unite and recall obstacles and that citizens have always shown solidarity.
The Grand Duke is deeply convinced that vaccination is the only way to control the pandemic. It is clear that in a democracy, everyone has the right to have their own opinion and that each citizen is free to decide whether he wants to be vaccinated or not, without forgetting that individual freedom ends where that of the people begins. . The safety and health of all are part of this freedom.
It is absolutely essential to be able to discuss controversial subjects openly and honestly, while showing tolerance and respect for opposing opinions, according to Grand Duke Henri, who specifies that in a democracy, it is also necessary to know how to respect the decisions of the majority. It is unacceptable to want to change this with violence. He recalls that violence is never a solution and that it is not tolerated in our rule of law.
The Head of State also wished to return to the safeguard of the climate which is particularly close to his heart. He remembers in his speech the terrible floods of July, a situation that prompts him to act even faster.
According to the Grand Duke, Luxembourg has not yet succeeded in turning some challenges into opportunities. He is proud to see that our country has always known how to reinvent itself and that our society is full of diversity, openness and tolerance. Luxembourg is continuing its work to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. An avant-garde spirit is needed to make the world cleaner, more equitable and more sustainable.
