In Toulouse, the Little Brothers of the Poor are preparing a Christmas for the isolated elderly
Claire Petit has been a volunteer for a year and a half with the Little Brothers of the Poor, in her district of Toulouse North. This year, she takes care of the Christmas holidays, and here she is unloading kilos food, bottles and bags from the trunk of his car. All this is for the Christmas meal at home, which the association will offer to its beneficiaries on December 24. On the menu, salmon rillettes, duck leg confit, beans, chestnuts, prosecco and a small glass to enjoy for two, with a member of the association who will come to spend Christmas lunch.
Claire Petit, she lives in Colomiers, works in Toulouse and divides his time between his work as an engineer and his volunteering in the association : “You don’t have to say it too much, but I come from the Paris region, she smiles. I found work in Toulouse and I stayed there. “
A distance that justifies this commitment
And this estrangement from his Parisian family is what partly justifies this commitment: “The time that I can’t give to my family was worth giving to other people, who don’t have families here. The effort that this required of me was the least relation to the contribution that it can provide. What I cannot give, I give to other people. “
The association offers single elderly people during the Holidays that a volunteer come and spend lunch with them, or that the beneficiary comes lunch at the restaurant, for a collective meal.
Preparatory work since the month of november for Claire Petit: “There is first a census, the desires of each. You have to prepare the menu, make the purchases, that’s all that you have to coordinate”, explains the young woman. Between Toulouse and Muret, 60 volunteers will accompany a cent of profit.
