The Slovaks traveled to Canada with 28 hockey players, but only 25, 22 skaters and three goalkeepers can write them on the championship roster. The defenders Oliver Fatul, Šimon Groch and the striker Oliver Stümpel received Čierny Petr and were eliminated from the nomination.

Fatul and Groch had already left the Red Deere camp on Christmas Day to fly from Edmonton via Toronto to Vienna. Stümpel will leave the team on December 25 and return to the Corpus Christi IceRays Club in NAHL.

“We have to make a decision. We discussed for a very long time and finally decided to leave Oliver Fatul, Šimon Groch and Oliver Stümpel. I will repeat that this was a difficult and extremely long decision.

Together with colleagues, we tried to find the best compromise that will be most beneficial for the team. In the end, less gaming practice decided against the boys. However, I believe that we will move such an unpopular decision further in their careers. Hockey is the same, “ said for hockeyslovakia.sk head coach Ivan Feneš.

There are 25 hockey players on the final list, three of them goalkeepers. “We managed to put together an amazing team with a clear identity. We have experience, predation, youth, quality and players who are willing to throw shots and handle tough fights. We put together a really solid team, ” added Feneš.

The first sharp duel awaits the Slovaks on the night of Saturday to Sunday at 3.30 AD, when he chooses the US selection.
