Toulouse. The Giant’s Trail awarded with a heritage prize
After its rehabilitation, the Piste des Géants site in Toulouse, the cradle of aviation, was awarded the 2021 Heritage Grand Prix.
Toulouse stands out. The Piste des Géants in Montaudran has been awarded the 2021 Heritage Grand Prix from the Aéro-club de France, the oldest aeronautical institution in the world. This Prize recognizes “the work carried out in terms of preserving or restoring aeronautical heritage, in particular aircraft, buildings, etc. In this case, it is a special prize from the jury which distinguished Toulouse Métropole for the ambitious achievement of the Track. giants, in Montaudran, the cradle of world aeronautics, ”as Toulouse Métropole explained in a press release.
Located on the Toulouse-Montaudran industrial site, the Piste des Géants brings together the Gardens of the line created in 2017 and l’Envol des pionniers, the historic 1.8-kilometer track inaugurated in 2018. It has seen the skies take off, among other things Saint-Exupéry and Mermoz. It is to honor and publicize the incredible Toulouse epic which saw the birth of civil aviation with the first Latécoère flight that the historic buildings have been renovated.
“Witness site of the early days of commercial aviation, it is part of the scientific, technical and industrial culture center of Toulouse Métropole which also includes the Museum, the Quai des savoirs, the Cité de l’Espace and Aéroscopia ”, according to Toulouse Métropole.
