State of Tyrol supports animal welfare institutions | State of Tyrol
Significant increase in ongoing support for animal welfare organizations.
The state of Tyrol will also support the ongoing work of animal welfare institutions and investments in animal shelters in 2022. “An animal means responsibility. Those animals whose owners get rid of their animals or are unable to keep and care for them in a species-appropriate manner can find a safe place in one of the five Tyrolean animal shelters. The state of Tyrol will support this important work of the animal welfare institutions with more than one million euros in the coming year ”, explains LHStv Josef Geisler.
Funding increase
The Tierschutzverein für Tirol 1881 looks after around 3,500 abandoned or officially removed animals in its four animal shelters in Innsbruck, Schwaz, Wörgl and Reutte. The association will be supported by the State of Tyrol in 2022 with a grant of 350,000 euros. In East Tyrol, this responsible task is taken over by the East Tyrolean Animal Welfare Association, which offers space for 100 cats, dogs, various small animals and birds in its animal shelter in Lienz and looks after more than 200 animals every year. The state of Tyrol is making a contribution of 75,000 euros for this. “We have significantly increased the subsidies from animal welfare associations for ongoing operations compared to the previous year. The animal welfare facilities also recorded losses due to the pandemic. Despite the subsidies from the public purse, the commitment of the heartfelt helpers is indispensable ”, thanks him LHStv Geisler for this valuable job.
New dog house for the Mentlberg animal shelter
The largest animal welfare facility in Tyrol is the Mentlberg animal shelter in Innsbruck. Around 500 animals, mainly dogs, cats and small animals, are housed there on average. A new dog house will be built at the Mentlberg site in the coming year. This investment is necessary due to animal welfare requirements and the increasing number of confiscated dogs that usually stay in the animal shelter for longer periods of time. Every second criminal case under the Animal Welfare Act concerns dogs.
“We are promoting the construction of the new dog house Seiten des Landes with an investment grant of 600,000 euros”, so LHStv Geisler. The three dog rooms built in the 1960s, in which dying dogs are housed in or in individual boxes, are replaced by eleven dog rooms. All dog rooms have their own outdoor area. The animals can freely switch between indoor and outdoor areas. In addition, the new dog house includes various ancillary and storage rooms. A training field is also being built on the site.
Animals are living things
Quit appeals LHStv Josef Geisler: “The acquisition of every animal should be carefully considered. Animals are alive. Please inform yourself at short notice about the requirements for housing and care. ”
