What is IETT?
Istanbul Electric Tramway and Tunnel Enterprises or IETT, officially, are the providers of public transportation services affiliated to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in Istanbul.
In 1939, with the law numbered 3645, which nationalized various companies, it gained license rights under the name of “Istanbul Electricity Tramway and Tunnel Operations General Directorate”. In 1945, the Yedikule and Kurbağalıdere gas plants and the İstanbul and Anadolu gas systems from which these plants were fed were transferred to IETT. The trolleybuses, which were put into operation in 1961, served the residents of Istanbul until 1984. In 1982, the world was transferred to the Turkish Electricity Authority (TEK) with a law, with all electricity services, rights and obligations. Later, in 1993, gas production and activities ended. IETT, which offers you urban public transportation services today, is responsible for the management, operation and supervision of private public buses and Istanbul Transportation Inc., as well as bus, tunnel and tunnel management.
