Between 2013 and 2018, Olivier Anrigo took part in five expeditions to the countries of the Far North. From Lapland to Spitsbergen, from Norway to Finland, he has photographed a fantastic but endangered nature. He has collected 95 of his most striking photos in a book Artik Circle (Inventio editions).
On each of his trips, Olivier Anrigo takes 4,000 photos. During his five expeditions to the Far North, he took about 20,000 pictures and had to select (only) 95 for his book. But the aesthetic is not the only one but of the work. “It’s a beautiful book, but it’s not just a collection of pictures” explains the photographer from Nice. “It’s a co-construction with scientists who come to flesh out a more general project Arktic Interaction“.
Because the photographer is an actor committed to the fight against global warming. Surrounded by specialists, climatologists and glaciologists, he wants to show the urgency of the situation. In addition to his book, he presents some of his photos in Monaco.
An exhibition to discover at Espace 22 until February 25, 2022 and supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. “All the funds collected, the sales of my prints, will be used to finance other actions, including an expedition to Spitsbergen scheduled for 2023 which will be called Arktic Impact and which will make it possible to deal with problems and also to provide solutions to the public. “ explains Olivier Anrigo. A web documentary is also in the works to bring this new trip to the Far North into images and try to reach a larger public.
