Portugal recorded another 11 deaths and 8937 cases of infection by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, according to the bulletin released this Wednesday by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), covering the entire day of Tuesday.
It has been more than ten months since such a high number of new cases have been registered – since February 2 (day bulletin 3), data in which 9083 infections were recorded. The number of cases reported in the latest bulletin is 54% higher than last Wednesday’s record (5800 changes), in line with the 60% increase seen in last Tuesday’s report for this one.
According to data contained in the bulletin, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo account for 47% of new cases reported nationwide, with 4221 more infected. The North region accounts for over 2541 cases (28%). The Center registered another 1272 infected on the last day, followed by the Algarve with another 353 new cases and the Alentejo with another 183 infections. The Azores reported over 85 cases and Madeira over 282.
A further 3754 people recovered from the disease, now accounting for a total of 1,145,663 recovered. There is also a record over 5172 active cases of infection, in a total of 78,059 – this number results from subtracting the total of recovered and deaths from the total of positive cases.
In total, there have been 1,242,545 confirmed cases and 18,823 deaths since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
There are five more people hospitalized, adding now a total of 909 patients hospitalized with covid-19. Of these, 155 are in intensive care units, two more than the day before.
