le Comité prévention et dépistage des cancers donne 133 000 euros au CHU
This amount will be invested in new technologies that improve the detection of cancerous lesions and the quality of cancer screening.
The Cancer Screening Prevention Committee is an association that promotes cancer prevention and screening by encouraging individual responsibility and collective solidarity. She has just given a check for 133,000 euros to the Bordeaux University Hospital to finance two machines that will improve the screening and treatment of female cancers and colorectal cancer mainly.
The money was raised thanks to the participation of individuals in sporting events organized by the association such as the Pink Ribbon Challenge, a 7 km walking course or the Pink Ribbon Golf Trophy which are golf competitions.
Immunofluorescence and artificial intelligence
“This donation will allow us to acquire a device that works with immunofluorescence technology. It helps us to remove sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer, but also to better detect lesions that cannot be seen with the naked eye in various female pathologies such as endometriosis ”, explains Vanessa Conri, surgeon at CHU from Bordeaux. The machine is a kind of external camera that looks like a supermarket handshower and allows invisible lesions to be displayed in green, and on the control screens. It costs nearly 48,000 euros.
The second machine contains artificial intelligence that uses technology similar to facial recognition. It helps doctors find pathological areas instead of taking a biopsy and analysis. According to Arthur Berger, a digestive endoscopy practitioner at the Maison du Haut-Lévêque, this new technology improves the quality of colorectal cancer screening by detecting precancerous lesions earlier. A study is underway in five centers in France, including that of Haut-Lévêque, to evaluate this new method. Composed of a main housing, this device must also be accompanied by compatible endoscopes. 85,000 euros will be used for these purchases.
