Index – Domestic – Greenpeace went to Gergely Christmas
Despite promises, the capital’s management has not always presented a timetable for restricting old, polluting vehicles, Greenpeace told Hungary on its Facebook page.
Instead of setting a deadline as soon as possible for restricting obsolete diesels that have long been banned from Western European cities, Gergely Karácsony promises only a public consultation on the subject, which is a sweet reduction in air pollution in Budapest.
The environmental organization, which recalls that in July the Clean air! petition, introduction nearly 45 thousand people demanded that the city ban polluting vehicles from Budapest and help the spread and development of sustainable transport in the capital.
When the petition was handed over, the mayor stated that the target date for banning certain parts of Budapest from polluting vehicles would be set before the General Assembly later this year.
We still expect the capital to publish its timetable for banning polluting vehicles as soon as possible and to explain when and what instructions the Budapest leadership intends to give for the development and spread of sustainable mobility.
– emphasized Greenpeace Hungary, adding that changes are still very much needed, as the air quality of the closures ordered last year due to the coronavirus epidemic has slightly improved.
They highlighted the need for clean air not only at the municipal level but also at the government level, and the government is also indebted to its 2020 promise to limit the import of polluting vehicles.
Nor does it excel in supporting the governmental development of urban public transport. It even took money away from the municipalities to such an extent that it almost hampered the quality of public transport. In the interest of the health of the Hungarian people, we expect concrete and substantial air quality care from Hungarian decision-makers at both the city and government level.
Declared by the organization.
