Monaco conceded a new defeat in the Euroleague, on the floor of Alba Berlin (92-84), notably the fault in a catastrophic second quarter. ASM is now 14th in the standings.
Fourth defeat in five Euroleague games for Monaco. The return of Sasa Obradovic on the bench of the Roca Team did not revolutionize anything, and she lost 92-84 on the parquet of Alba Berlin during the 17th day, the last of the first leg. ASM had started the game well and led by eight points after two minutes of play, but the Germans did not tremble for long. From the fifth minute, they came back tied (15-15) and passed in the ninth minute, not to let go of the controls. Berlin widened the gap throughout a disastrous second quarter for Monaco, who managed to score only 9 points, while conceding 17. So that at halftime, Alba led 40 -30.
Monaco fell back to -2
The Germans further accentuated their grip on the game in the third quarter, which saw them increase their lead to +13, the biggest gap of the match (69-56, 30th). Still, Monaco continued to believe it, and in the final quarter ASM came down to 76-74 with 4’38 to go. The victory is therefore possible, but five points in a row from Maodo Lo (86-78) and free throws from Marcus Eriksson (90-83) sealed the Berlin victory in the money-time. Despite 25 points and 8 assists from Mike James and 23 points from Donatas Motiejunas, Monaco conceded their eleventh defeat in 17 games and plunged to fourteenth place in the standings, three wins from the Top 8. On the next day, in a week, the Monegasques receive Maccabi Tel Aviv, tenth, but which remains on six defeats in a row in the Euroleague. But first, the Roca Team will visit the promoted Fos-sur-Mer on Monday in Betclic Elite.
