As the Baltic States prepare to join the continental European electricity system in 2025, about 40% of the work required for this is still completed in Lithuania. Dainius Kreivys, the Minister of Energy, says that the most complex technical projects are already being implemented and that is the lion’s path.
He commented the government on Wednesday approved an update of the synchronization project plan, the ministry said.
According to the Minister, among other things, the most important work to be completed this year was the construction of 200 MW batteries, a test of Lithuanian isolated work, and the selection of a contractor for the construction of the Harmony Link cable.
To date, five of the 15 governments have approved the synchronization project.
The first attempt
Two projects were fully completed this year: the Lithuanian-Polish connection Litpol Link was adapted and tested for synchronous operation, and the Lithuanian network in the north-east was optimized.
The Lithuanian and Polish electricity transmission system operators Litgrid and PSE are trying to connect to the mainland European electricity system (KET) during the last connection of the Polish-Lithuanian electricity system LitPol Link.
During the test, simulating the accident, the main Lithuanian electricity generation events were disconnected from the BRELL IED power system connecting the five post-Soviet countries.
They have been relaunched in the European electricity system, which controls the continent of the dispersal continent, and tested for the first time in history with the Polish system and, at the same time, with the European system. It is necessary that in an emergency, Lithuania already today has the opportunity to ensure a stable connection of the electricity system to Poland, as well as to the continental European electricity system (EES).
We have to test the connection of synchronous connection, and our main production capacities of electricity are ready to work in the system of continental Europe, – the report quotes Dainius Kreivys, the Minister of Energy.
Until now, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, along with Russia and Belarus, operate in the Soviet IPS / UPS, which are centrally regulated and managed.
Several other important tests are planned before synchronization with the continental European network. 2022 It is planned to perform a test of isolated work in Lithuania, and later a test of isolated work of the common Baltic electricity system.
