Cape Verde calls up five who play in Portugal for the CAN finals
Test will take place in January, in Cameroon.
The Cape Verdean selector summons five players who play in Portugal for a final stage of the African Cup of Nations (CAN’2021), which arrives in Cameroon in January, and a single footballer who plays in the archipelago.
According to the official call released this Wednesday, coach Pedro Brito “Bubista” elected goalkeeper Márcio Rosa (Montalegre), João Paulo Fernandes (Feirense), Marco Soares (Arouca), Nuno Borges (Casa Pia) and Gilson Tavares (Estoril), who play in Portugal.
For the biggest competition of teams in Africa, the Cape Verdean helmsman also summons athletes from countries like the United States, France, Turkey, Cyprus, Netherlands, Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Norway, Saudi Arabia or Azerbaijan.
Another novelty is that there is a single player who plays in the archipelago (Keven Ramos, from Mindelense) among the 26 chosen as “Bubista” for Cape Verde’s third participation in a CAN finals, after 2013 (in South Africa) and 2015 (in Equatorial Guinea).
Os Tubarões Azuis, name for which a team from Cape Verde is known, the internship starts on December 29th. Cape Verdeans are part of Group A, along with Ethiopia, Burkina Faso and the hosts Cameroon.
The maximum competition for national teams in Africa will take place between January 9th and February 6th, 2022.
The competition was supposed to take place in 2021, in Cameroon, but was postponed to 2022 due to the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus, despite maintaining the designation CAN’2021.
