– Next month will be the worst
On Saturday, the total number of omicron cases in Denmark went up to 15,452, an increase of 3893 cases from the day before. On Sunday, the number had risen to 18,753 in Denmark, new figures from the Statens Serum Institut show.
The Omikron variant is an important reason why Denmark has chosen to implement a new and comprehensive closure.
– The pandemic will end
Both cinemas, museums and amusement parks must be closed from Sunday. Bars, restaurants and cafes must be closed between 23 and 5 o’clock, and there is a ban on drinking from 22 o’clock.
Denmark is a pioneering country when it comes to test and analysis capacity. Every day, they carry out more than 200,000 PCR tests, despite the fact that they have a population of 5.8 million, department director Troels Lillebæk at the Statens Serum Institut recently told Dagbladet.
Omicron infection is especially prevalent in Copenhagen, and many of those infected are young.
Transfer Washington Post Acting Director Tyra Grove Krause at the Statens Serum Institut comes with a gloomy prediction about the future.
“Next month will be the last period so far in the pandemic,” Grove Krause told the newspaper.
She makes no secret of the fact that she believes that the omicron variant will undoubtedly overload the hospitals in the future – regardless of whether it results in milder disease courses or not.
However, Avisa writes that data from Denmark so far suggest that hospitalization is slightly lower among people who are infected with the new variant. However, it said that one has to wait a few weeks to be able to say whether this is true.
