Children and parents in Prague 5 pay extra for the conflict of interests of the deputy and mayor Zajíčková
20. 12. 2021
For the third year in a row, Renáta Zajíčková (ODS), the mayor of Prague, the mayor of Prague 5, an entrepreneur and, recently, a deputy, has been dealing with the unsatisfactory state of school capacities in the Košíř locality. It is there, according to all available analyzes, that the situation with overcrowded schools is the most critical. The town hall claims that it works intensively to ensure sufficient school capacities, but is unable to prove anything.
For more than half a year, we have been hearing from Mayor Zajíčková that she is negotiating with the developer YIT Stavo, sro, which has so far managed to approve one new apartment after another in the incriminated locality. He would have the good word of the town hall in his Tellus complex, which seems to have a pavilion not rebuilt for flats for four years as a temporary solution for the local primary school. We are writing a good word, because there is not a single official output or assignment, a public contract or even an order that the Prague 5 district office would have issued to anyone so far.
“We are witnessing a non-transparent negotiation between councilors of Prague 5 and the developer YIT, the result of which is to be an overpriced and insufficient time and time lease of premises in the administrative building of the Tellus complex. At the same time, Mayor Zajíčková leases de facto the entire primary school building to herself in the same location, ” says Alena Janďourková from Prague 5 To herself who lives in the locality and her children are affected by the school crisis in Prague 5.
According to an estimate, the city district will have to pay approximately CZK 500,000 per month for renting four classes from the developer, while mayor and MP Zajíčková rents a school building from “her” city district for her own business for only CZK 73,252 per month.
From the current management of the town hall, we hear only harsh information that negotiations with the developer or hygiene representatives took place here and there. At the same time, it ignores the fact that in the spring of this year the Prague 5 City Council instructed the mayor to have an economic analysis agreed upon with this Finnish developer. Mayor Zajíčková postponed her justification for the complexity of the negotiations until the end of the year, stating that she was continuously submitting the task under the title of processing an economic calculation without putting a single one at the council meeting. Alternative options for ensuring sufficient places for pupils are not preferred in any way by the town hall, so not only the opposition but also the citizens of the affected localities themselves must emphasize the urgent situation at practically every council meeting.
“This is called the fulfillment of the political goal of the Open City Hall of Prague 5, in which the ODS slogan promise to make us number one !!! Prague 5 will indeed happen, but in addition to the lack of a pupil, the connection to the developer lobby and the non-transparent behavior towards its constituents, “ states the pirate representative and chairman of the Control Committee Štěpán Rattay notes the shift in the solution of school capacities.
Time is running out and the moment will come very quickly when there is no room left for discussion and evaluation of alternative solutions. The unresolved conflict of interests of the mayor and businesswoman Zajíčková will soon drive the entire Prague 5 City Council into a dead end. It will be exposed to extreme pressure and the deputies will be forced to raise their hand for the town hall, which is ready, but the “only” overpriced for the development variant, with the prospect of a solution for only four years. What will happen after the replacement of those four years? In Košíře, schools are in danger of collapsing, which the new town hall management will have to deal with in the next election period. The business of the mayor and MP, who has very conveniently rented the building of the primary school in Plzeňská from the Prague 5 district for 10 + 10 years, seems to be untouchable.
The mayor and councilors refuse to provide information to the citizens of Prague 5 and do not respond to civic interpellations on this topic. Citizens repeatedly express their concerns at council meetings and therefore seek the actions of the elected representatives of the city district in this case in the public interest, who are to protect the mayor and council of the P5 district.
“I have a child in three years of compulsory schooling. He will probably attend a substitute school in Košíře, according to the current state of the town hall meeting in Tellus. Available information shows that the lease of the building ends in the summer of 2026 and it is quite possible What should I do? Barbora Simajchlová, mother and member of the Košíře without school civic initiative, is worried.
