The appearance of the primary school in Komořany in Prague 12 will emerge from the design of the XTOPIX architects studio
Prague – The appearance of the planned primary school (elementary school) in Komořany in Prague 12 will emerge from the design of the XTOPIX architects studio. The studio won an architectural competition announced by the town hall in mid-June. Eva Burianová, a spokeswoman for the twelfth city district, told ČTK today. The new school should be located in Do Koutů Street and should be attended by about 810 pupils. According to the mayor of Prague 12, Jan Adamec (Pirates), the school could open in 2026. The city district has previously estimated the cost of building a primary school at 450 million crowns without VAT.
“The new school in Komořany will be one of the largest investments in school infrastructure,” said Petr Prchal, Councilor for Education in Prague 12 (TOP 09). According to the Deputy Mayor of Prague 12, Jiří Fremer (ODS), it can be expected that the construction of the first primary school in Komořany will be more expensive than the recently completed construction of the town hall building in Generála Šišky Street. According to earlier information, the construction of the building, which houses all departments of the Prague 12 office since the summer, cost 617.8 million crowns.
Architects Pavel Buryška, Barbora Buryšková, Martin Málek, Michal Štěpař and Lucie Lorencová from XTOPIX architects designed a school building with 27 main classrooms, a school kitchen and a dining room and two gyms. The designers placed the outdoor sports ground, which was part of the competition assignment, on the roof of the building. It is walkable and planted with plants. The participants of the competition were also tasked with solving transport services and connections to technical infrastructure networks and designing the school’s outdoor areas. Thanks to the location of the sports ground on the roof of the building, they remain green in the winning project. A detached house for a school school is also designed on the school premises.
The jury, which included architects Markéta Smrčková, Miloš Kopřiva, Jan Hájek and Tomáš Bezpalec and representatives of the town hall, selected the winners of a one-round architectural competition from ten projects. According to a spokesman for the town hall, the commission assessed the proposals in terms of functionality, energy efficiency and the like. The winning project impressed the jury by connecting the city and nature and how it dealt with the small sloping land on which the construction is planned.
The plan to build a primary school in Komořany was approved by the councilor in July 2019. A subsequent feasibility study, prepared by Martin Burýšek, confirmed in September 2020 that the school could be built at Do Koutů Street. The fact that the future appearance of the school will come out of the architectural competition was approved by the council in February this year. Prague 12 announced the competition on June 14, the studios could submit competition proposals until mid-November. According to Councilor Prchal, demographic studies responding to the potential for large housing construction in Komořany show that there is a need to increase the number of places for schoolchildren.
The city district also wants to build a new kindergarten. A four-class kindergarten called Mydlinky should stand on the land between K Beránu, Dolnocholupická and Lešetínská streets and should house rooms for 112 children. Construction was scheduled to begin in the summer months, but the project is now changing to make construction cheaper. Prague 12 made adjustments based on the conclusions of the tender for the kindergarten contractor. The offers of the participating companies significantly exceeded the expected value of the contract.
In Prague 12, it consists of representatives of the coalitions of Pirates, ODS, TOP 09 and Greens. Prague 12, where 56,617 inhabitants live, includes the entire cadastral area of Cholupice, Kamýk, Komořany, Modřany and Točné.
