Race in Innsbruck-Igls: Taubitz and Ludwig dominate – party with bratwurst – sport
Good results for the German toboggan team after the last World Cup of the year: victories for Julia Taubitz and Johannes Ludwig, the doubles Eggert / Benecken win the sprint race in Innsbruck.
Innsbruck / Igls – Julia Taubitz showed her broadest smile and was very satisfied after her success in Innsbruck.
“Last week the Ösis won so strongly here in Altenberg that we somehow hold back today,” said the 25-year-old toboggan world champion, who is also proving her good form in the Olympic season in the Innsbruck-Igls ice channel and is currently proving her strongest competitor Madeleine Egle held in check. German competitors Natalie Geisenberger also died in third place and Anna Berreiter in fourth stayed at a distance. The Austrian Egle only turned the tables in the sprint race and won ahead of Taubitz, who continues to lead in the overall World Cup ranking.
Now the sports soldier from Oberwiesenthal is looking forward to the two-week break from competition before the next World Cup is due on New Year’s Day in Winterberg. “I now have five or six days off completely and can breathe deeply, drink a mulled wine and bake cookies,” said Taubitz. The family Christmas menu includes traditional bratwurst with sauerkraut and potatoes.
Quarantine hole
Johannes Ludwig can also be very satisfied with the preparations for the Olympics. In the absence of Felix Loch, who had to quarantine at home because of a year old with a positive corona test, his 30th World Cup victory continues to lead and the overall standings after a third place in the final sprint race.
“Those were my two best runs today,” including Ludwig, who also set a track record and is longing for the short break: “It’s important that I’m away from tobogganing with my family after seven weeks on the road War.”
The weekend also ended in a forgiving way for the doubles, who could not achieve a podium place in the World Cup race. The sprint race on Sunday was won by the Thuringian world champions Toni Eggert / Sascha Benecken.
