On the occasion of the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France against Monaco, redstar.fr looks back on the significant confrontations between the two clubs.
Last episode today with the Audoniens’ 3-0 success at Bauer in the 1974-75 season, the Red Star’s last victory against Monaco.
During the two previous seasons, Audoniens and Monegasques have not had the opportunity to compete, playing in turn in the elite or in the second division. For the 1974-75 season, the Red Star has just returned to Ligue 1, and found the Monegasques at Bauer during the 23th day, disputed on January 12, 1975. The Audoniens are then in a delicate position, occupying the 19th place in the standings, with only 4 victories since the start of the season. Opposite, Monaco advances with certainties, with an interesting 6th place, just one point from the podium.
In the first leg (5th day), Monegasques and Audoniens had offered an incredible spectacle during a particularly disputed match. At the Louis II stadium, Monaco had won 4 goals to 3 in a game with a crazy scenario, with in particular 4 goals scored between the 50th and the 60th minute. What to give a lot of frustration on the Auien side, as well as a strong feeling of revenge at the time of finding the Asémistes a few months later, especially since the Red Star needs points.
In front of nearly 8,000 spectators in Bauer, the meeting got off to a good start for enterprising and determined Audonians. At the 23th minute, Gonzalès combines with Di Nallo to open the scoring and leverage the Audonian supporters from their seats. Well established collectively, the Red Star players will see their superiority falter shortly before the break. Following a major foul suffered at 33th minute, Gonzalès will be carried away and will be excluded for a gesture of humor on the Monegasque defender Guesdon. We then fear the worst for the Audonians on their return from the locker room, after a first half yet widely known and successful.
On returning from the locker room, the Audonians added to the bill, with a Di Nallo on fire. This last profit first of an error of Guesdon at the 56th, then a superb service from Fuentes to the 62th, to register or double express and allow Audonians to get away from the notice board. With some decisive saves by Fouché in the last half hour, the Red Star will keep its clean sheet to largely win 3-0, at the end of a recorded collective meeting.
The Red Star then won a prestigious victory, as unexpected as it was important in the fight for maintenance. This success remains to this day the Audonian victory against Monaco, as well as the biggest victory against the Asémistes. A success that can inspire the Red Star before their reunion against the Monegasques in the 32nd round of the Coupe de France at Bauer. A historic match to live on France 3 Region and Eurosport 2.
