The vaccination is the most effective protection against a serious illness caused by the corona virus, even for those who have recovered and especially when they have access to the new virus variant Omikron. Therefore, those who have recovered are encouraged to vaccinate.
Holger Förster, Salzburg Medical Association, Holger Förster, A complete immunization against the corona virus. “A disease can be equated with a single vaccination, so to speak. And with this one dose is too little. In order to have the best possible protection, I therefore recommend all convalescents to get vaccinated, ”says Förster.
One to six months after illness
Those who have recovered should be vaccinated at the earliest six months after a Covid disease. And especially with regard to the new Omikron variant, the vaccination is also recommended for those who have recovered. “The vaccines are only partially effective against Omikron. You also need a very high antibody level for effective protection against the new variant.
Intentional infection carries a high risk
Holger Förster particularly advises against getting infected on purpose in order to be “immune”, so to speak. “The risk of getting seriously ill is many times higher and, depending on previous illnesses and age, simply too great,” says Förster.
