We must ease off. This is the instruction passed by the prefecture for this Friday, December 17, 2021, on the highways and roads of Haute-Garonne.
The maximum authorized speed is lowered by 20 km / h on the entire road network, and therefore also on the highways, in our department.
The speed therefore increases to 70 km / h on the ring road this morning (it is undoubtedly lower because of the traffic this Friday morning…). You must drive at 90 km / h on the RN 124 west of Toulouse and at 90 km / h (A64, A62 and A61) or 110 km / h (A68) on the motorways when approaching Toulouse.
The reason ? The “exceeding of the alert threshold for an atmospheric pollution phenomenon”, indicated the prefecture of Haute-Garonne which took emergency measures Thursday evening as provided for in the rule after several days of air pollution. continue throughout this Friday.
State services have detailed the phenomenon:
“This winter episode is linked to the accumulation of suspended particles emitted mainly by heating systems, road traffic and industries, and favored by stable weather conditions (absence of wind and rain). The autan wind expected from Friday evening could be able to disperse the pollutants ”.
In order not to favor the deterioration of air quality, in addition to lowering the authorized speed, the prefecture has taken the following measures:
- Ban on agricultural burning
- Industrial polluting operations report.
