Prague – Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) will appoint another nine ministers today. Seven members of his team took office on Friday, a few hours after the coalition cabinet formed by Together and the Pirates was named STAN by President Miloš Zeman in Lány, and then he met for the first session at the Straka Academy. The future Minister of Agriculture Zdeněk Nekula (KDU-ČSL), who is in isolation due to the covidem-19 infection and did not have the opportunity to speak with the president, is still waiting for his appointment to the government. The resort is currently temporarily managed by the head of the People’s Party and Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka.
The symbolic handover of the ministries takes place in the presence of the former ministers of the previous cabinet of ANO and the CSSD Andrej Babiš (ANO).
Today, Fiala will accompany Jana Černochová (ODS), the head of Czech diplomacy Jan Lipavský (Pirates), the Ministry of Transport Martin Kupka (ODS), education Petr Gazdík (STAN), culture Martin Bax (ODS) and the Ministry of the Environment Anna Hubáčková at their offices (for KDU-ČSL). At the Office of the Government, he will hand over the functions to three ministers without portfolios – Mikuláš Bek (STAN) will be in charge of European affairs, Helena Langšádlová (TOP 09) science, research and innovation and Michal Šalomoun (Pirates) government legislation.
After the appointment of Nekula, Fiala’s government will have 18 members, three of whom are women. It will meet again on December 22 and also between holidays. It must address the coronavirus epidemic as a matter of priority, prepare a budget for next year or the effects of rising prices.
