Unpublished photos of Warsaw from the 90s and 00s. Photographer-engineer Jerzy Kostrzewa loved to capture
What Warsaw looked like in the 90s. A city exploded under communism, communism of colors, posters – sometimes cheesy outbursts of thousands – flowers shine through buildings. We present unpublished photos of Jerzy Kostrzewa, photographer and engineer.
I learn the story of Jerzy Kostrzewa by chance. One day I call me his Blood, who lives abroad on a daily basis. He wants to connect to connect about his father. He has fat and heavy photo albums with him. She and her husband barely carry them to the table. In a cafe in Wilanów, he shows me pictures of the landscape, Masovian villages, but also Warsaw. Among them, large large engineering facilities – e.g. the Świętokrzyski Bridge under construction or the construction of ul. Warsaw Wileńska Railway Station
As I hear, this is not an achievement. Jerzy Kostrzewa, birthday in 1931 in Warsaw, on the side of the Stefan Batory and a project study – he became an engineer. Working on large construction sites, he often grabbed the camera. It wasn’t his basic job at first.
– From an early age he was interested in sightseeing and tourism. He belonged to PTTK, for organized trips, also to maintain the system, and rallies – during which I showed interesting places. In 1964, when he was going to one of the rallies, he had equipment near Grójec. My brother died in it (he was 11 then – ed.) – tells the Blood of Jerzy. – Dad fought for his life for a year. Later she was disabled. Moments of loneliness turned towards photography. His remaining eye was a camera. To give him meaning in life after the accident and the loss of his son – explain.
