Salzburg Bach Choir puts the future in young hands
A Handel project in the Brucknerhaus in Linz tipped the balance: Benjamin Hartmann becomes the new artistic director. The 31-year-old will celebrate his Salzburg premiere in the festival summer of 2022.

Benjamin Hartmann will be the new artistic director from March 2022.
The Salzburg Bach Choir took eighteen months to look for a successor to the artistic director Alois Glaßner. “We implemented our projects with various choir directors and interviewed the choir singers,” says managing director Gregor Faistauer. The feedback after a Handel project in the Brucknerhaus in Linz was particularly enthusiastic. The choirmaster’s name was Benjamin Hartmann at the time. On Thursday, the 31-year-old was presented as the future artistic director from March 2022.
