Salzburg associations distance themselves from demonstrations
“In the last few days we have been increasingly contacted by demonstration organizers to motivate our clubs to take part in demonstrations,” Berta Wagner, managing director of the Salzburg Folk Culture Forum, in an email to the S24 editorial team. The umbrella organization of the six regional associations dissociates itself from the fact that clubs in club costume or declared as a club take part in demonstrations.
Krampuses demonstrate against the “extermination of customs”
Only recently were Tyroleans asked to take to the streets against the “extermination of customs”. The chairman of the regional association of Salzburg homeland associations, Hannes Brugger, also spoke out against the political appropriation of customs in this context.
Salzburg clubs want “neutral behavior”
It is crucial that clubs remain independent and non-denominational and that they practice good cooperation within the framework of legal regulations. Of course, every club member can express his opinion freely, but the clubs themselves should behave neutrally, it says in the broadcast. In addition, customs and traditions that live in and through associations should not be abused for social conflicts.
