Prague 5: Prádelna and Louka community centers at Christmas and New Year
16.12.2021 8:38 | Press Release
The last month of the year is usually marked by a recapitulation of the whole year, meetings with loved ones and friends and preparation for the upcoming holidays. Unfortunately, even this year, the current epidemiological situation significantly limits this aspect of the moments spent in December together.
“Nevertheless, even in this complicated time, the Prádelna and Louka community center has prepared a number of interesting activities, which, however, are used by a limited number of visitors as compliance with all applicable measures, or online,” said Councilor JUDr. Petr Lachnit.
In the Prádelna Community Center, the winter semester of educational and physical education courses for seniors continues in December in the form of online lessons, which are sent to registered participants by e-mail.
On Monday, December 6, 2021, an exhibition by Pavla Vaculíková was installed in the Prádelna Gallery, for which it presents a kind of miniature cross-section of parts of her work. Afterwards, a photo documentation of the exhibition was taken as part of the virtual opening as an annotated tour of the author. Once processed, all material will be published on the community center’s YouTube channel.
The next day, on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, an Advent concert was held by Dana Klásková and Pavel Skalický.

In the Louka Community Center, December is mainly a look back at what all senior participants in regular activities managed to do this year. In addition to developing their own skills and gaining knowledge, local seniors also create for others. From September, seamstresses met here again and again, who made a lot of cloth toys for children from the Na Hřebenkách nursery: ponies, dogs, owls and cats. The toys have already been ‘secretly’ handed over to Mikuláš. Many thanks to all skillful ladies and in January everyone is looking forward to more sewing workshops.
In December, visitors to the center will also see the ceremonial closing of the Painting Course in the form of a virtual opening, where paintings by all twelve participants will be exhibited at the Louka Community Center. Everyone usually managed to paint two larger canvases – with the theme of flowers and landscape painting. The results are truly breathtaking and will be worth watching.
Here, too, all regular activities for seniors in the distance form take place here in December.
As of December 20, 2021, senior students have Christmas holidays, and regular courses at both community centers begin on January 10, 2022, perhaps in full-time form.
In addition, the Prádelna Community Center is preparing for the ceremonial opening of the chamber library, which was established with the support of Pivovary Staropramen, sro On Wednesday, January 19, 2021, from 1 pm to 5 pm, anyone can come and exchange their already read books for others, or give them another book or find a publication for themselves.
For the last week of January of the new year, the VII. year of the January tournament of SENZational SENiors in table tennis. This established and popular event had to be interrupted during the year, so everyone hopes that the tradition will be restored in 2022.
“At the end of 2021, we are in a complicated and difficult situation in connection with the pandemic. Planning cultural and social events is much faster than ever before. I am glad that our community centers are preparing a varied program during this difficult time, because especially the seniors, who make up a substantial part of the regular visitor, have a particularly heavy burden. From last year’s experience, we can confirm that online operation is also of great benefit to seniors, and all involved participants appreciate this form of contact and communication. Of course, I believe that the situation will improve and the January program will take place in normal operation, where one of the main aspects of the community center’s activities is meeting and direct community work with target groups. However, this requires consideration and responsibility of each of us, which I would like to appeal to not only visitors to our centers, “adds JUDr. Petr Lachnit, Councilor of the Prague 5 District for Social Affairs.
