Bitpanda: Austrian fintech is recruiting to settle in Portugal – Business
Austrian fintech Bitpanda is building a team in Portugal and in the second quarter of next year it wants to open an office in Lisbon, which will also be a technology hub. To lead an operation, he revealed that he is recruiting a general manager to coordinate the local team and develop the business in the country, but he is also looking for employees for other positions.
In a statement to SAPO TeK, Irina Scarlat, the startup’s Chief Growth Officer, admits that next year the startup’s local team should reach double digits. “We want to hire a world-class team in Portugal to help our Portuguese market and European growth in many different departments of the company.”
In a statement, the company had already explained that the priority of the new local team will be to position Bitpanda as a preferred investment platform for the Portuguese. In Europe, fintech’s services are already used by more than three million people, from account numbers to data on the platform. Portugal is one of the markets where they are already available and where users are already using.
Bitpanda’s regional expansion plan involves expanding the user base to 10 million Europeans, anticipates the company, which is currently valued at US$4.1 billion and which in recent months has managed to raise a series C investment in value of 263 million dollars.
The choice of Portugal as an investment destination in this new expansion phase is due to the fact that the country is “innovative and enterprising and has been showing strong demand and a fast growing interest in digital assets”, explains Irina Scarlat.
The official also indicates that, since Bitpanda’s services are available in Portugal, there has been a sharp increase in users, even without marketing and without local management. “We expect a much bigger increase when we start to be properly present in the market, with a local team, spokesperson and qualified marketing campaigns”, he adds.
Bitpanda was founded in 2014 by Eric Demuth, Paul Klanschek and Christian Trummer as a cryptocurrency trading platform. However, it has evolved into a platform for trading different types of assets, in addition to cryptocurrencies and ETFs, it is also possible to trade stocks or precious metals in the application, which has options for different risk and investment profiles. It is possible to make investments from one euro.
Bitpanda guarantees that it positions its services for all types of investors, from the most experienced in the transactions that the platform allows, to those who are making their debuts, which is why it maintains the Bitpanda Academy, with educational content to guide those using investments.
Bitpanda already has offices in eight European countries. Headquarters is in Vienna, where the company has 600 employees.
