Vienna in 2022 celebrates life
In 2022 Vienna intends to celebrate its great return: the metropolis shows itself from its best side and returns to celebrate life, art, pleasures and of course the extraordinary city life in all its facets. Vienna returns to the fore in all its glory. The city is even more lively, modern and splendid than before the crisis and there is no shortage of (new) reasons to celebrate life there again. In fact, Vienna has always focused on its future. Just like you do in a metropolis. Against the backdrop of the city’s imperial glories, it continues to grow and innovate. For centuries, art, culture, science, diversity, exchange, architecture and joie de vivre have shaped its soul. Vienna went through very different phases, but one thing never: immobility; also in 2022, therefore, it will be constantly on the move and will offer those who visit it and live there the best of all worlds – first and foremost art, culture, city life and flavors.
Art is celebrated
The thriving world of art and culture is an integral part of this city’s DNA. Three quarters of those who visit Vienna are attracted by the exceptional artistic and cultural offer. And that’s right: between the University of Vienna and the Karlsplatz square, for example, on an area of just under 1.2 km², there are almost thirty museums. It is difficult to find areas with a higher density of art, from that of antiquity to the production of today. Vienna is a veritable forge of art, with the cultural offer of a city four times larger. And the Viennese cultural scene continues to grow: in 2022 some new museums will (re) open in Vienna, including the Lower Belvedere or the Heidi Horten Collection. And the museums of Vienna offer numerous exhibitions of great depth.

The city is celebrated
Openness and exchange are central elements of this city, and its diversity is not a marketing gimmick. In Vienna there are 178 different nationalities and this mixture of different influences can be experienced above all in its numerous neighborhoods, where urban life is best experienced whose sides are many: the imperial frame alternates with contemporary architecture . In the historic center you can move easily on foot. Public spaces have long been no longer parking but places where you can breathe deeply and relax. Already half of the city is made up of green spaces and water surfaces, and almost a thousand parks dot it. This city allows all the experiences of a metropolis but without stress and in complete safety. This also makes it perfect for organizing conferences: over two hundred suggestive hotels and conference venues, historical or even modern, represent the perfect setting for congresses, corporate meetings and incentives. Even in the new areas of urban expansion, attention is paid not to be limited to the construction of innovative and sustainable homes but to integrate in these spaces also research centers, modern design hotels based on sustainable formulas, spaces for work, green spaces and culture . It also wants to become a climate neutral city by 2040.

The extraordinary is celebrated
In Europe there is no metropolis that has given its name to a culinary style, the Viennese Cuisine, like Vienna, no city in which the vine is grown in such quantities, and none that boasts such a coffee culture. One thing that will perhaps surprise you: many of the ingredients that end up in the dishes of local restaurants are produced right in Vienna, with innovative cultivation techniques and at km 0 or almost. And Vienna is even the cucumber capital: 62% of Austrian cucumbers come from here. And don’t forget that the city has another great luxury: here from the taps excellent and very fresh mineral water comes out directly from the mountain springs. A feature that is by no means obvious for a metropolis. And there is still something extraordinary in Vienna: the continuous interpretation of design objects and crafts, which have centuries-old traditions behind them. Companies such as Augarten Porzellan, for example, can keep up with the times and produce high quality articles with a modern design. Young designers such as Laura Karasinski bring new life to the Viennese landscape and with great success: for example, the furnishing of entire hotels such as the new “Superbude” at the Viennese Prater is commissioned.

8,210 rooms – from restaurant to café (source: Jahresstatistik 2020 Wirtschaftskammer Wien)
2,240 coffees of all kinds – from traditional coffee to bar (source: Jahresstatistik 2020 Wirtschaftskammer Wien). 12 Viennese restaurants awarded by the Michelin Guide: Restaurant Amador is the first three-star restaurant in Austria. The restaurants Steirereck, Silvio Nickol Gourmet Restaurant im Palais Coburg, Konstantin Filippou and Mraz & Sohn have all been awarded two stars, seven other restaurants one star (source: Michelin Guide “Main Cities of Europe 2020”). 153 restaurants awarded by Gault Millau 2021 in Vienna. Restaurant Steirereck: in 12th place in the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” (source: www.theworlds50best.com)
Vienna is the only metropolis in the world that practices noteworthy viticulture within its urban boundaries: 700 hectares of wine-growing area, 140 wineries (except amateur winegrowers), (source: Landwirtschaftskammer Wien). One third of the city’s wine-growing area is used for organic viticulture (source: Jahrestätigkeitsbericht 2018 der Landwirtschaftskammer Wien); 645 Viennese farmers (source: Wiener Landwirtschaftsbericht 2017, biennial publication)
Ultimately, there is no shortage of reasons to celebrate in and with Vienna in 2022. Those who come to visit the city will return home happier and with pleasant memories that do not fade away. And also in the future the city will not stop and will keep on its path as a city on a human scale and sustainable. The quality of life will constantly improve and its future has long been in place.
