The Cetilar Maratona di Pisa is back with the 22nd edition
The 22nd edition of the Cetilar Marathon of Pisa. “I congratulate the organizers of the event for their commitment and seriousness – commented the mayor of Pisa Michele Conti – despite the objective difficulties. As an administration, we believe that the Marathon is an important event for the city of Pisa, also for its ability to attract athletes from all over the world, with a large female presence, a characteristic that distinguishes this event on a national level “.
Sergio Costanzo, vice president 1063AD: “Deciding to organize the Pisa Marathon, despite the difficulties linked to the current pandemic situation, is a real challenge, which we received with great enthusiasm, also in the wake of the extraordinary sporting successes that this year saw Italy triumph in the world. In order to ensure the safe conduct of the event we have decided to limiting the number of participants to 2 thousand“.
Among the members, once again, many foreign athletes, over 25%, an unexpected result and many young and very young people who will come from foreign federations who have chosen the Pisan season to score their best time of the season. Pisa is confirmed as the women’s marathon, with about 30% of women arriving in the city to run the 42 and 21 km.
Race and route
The start of the Marathon (42.195 Km) is set at 9 am, at the same time the Pisanina Half Marathon (21.097 Km) will start. In agreement with the University of Pisa and Cus Pisa, a 4-mile race was also organized for university students and employees; the best and the best runner will be awarded by Cus with the Cherubino trophy. The purpose of this trophy, now in its third edition, is to raise awareness and induce sports to those who have never tried the experience of running in a major event.
Marco Gesi, Professor and Vice Rector for relations with local authorities, with responsibility for sporting activities: “The Pisa Marathon demonstrates a strong desire for inclusion thanks to an event suitable for everyone. The choice, made in synergy with the Cus of Pisa , to be alongside the Marathon, has the purpose of raising awareness and promoting the sporting practice of the local community “.
Finally, a special prize, which we hope will encourage the performance of our home athletes, will be offered by San Rossore Sport Village, which will reserve a particular trophy for the best Pisan and the best Pisan ranking in the Marathon.
The route, Aims certified, will be the same as the last edition of 2019, and will wind through art, history and nature, starting in via Carlo Cammeo and arriving in Piazza Duomo at the foot of the Leaning Tower.
