Serving Portugal
The PS Political Commission approved, by a large majority (83%), the candidate lists for the Assembly of the Republic for the next legislative amendments of January 30th. Local, district, regional and national structures decided to renew without neglecting the necessary political experience, indispensable to the quality of representation and political support to the government that wants to be stable, secure, predictable and for four years.
They are lists that include people with work capacity, knowledge of territories and people and with a sense of mission. With the will to serve the country in a special moment of combating a pandemic, of dense and intense work to recover the conditions of economic and social life and to face the challenges of the qualification of society, innovation in the economy and modernization of the State.
The age, professional and territorial diversity is accompanied by the renewal of eight of the heads of the list, the maintenance of gender balance, the rejuvenation and the meeting with representatives of the union world.
These choices, like any others, always have limits. There are other citizens with competence to carry out parliamentary functions. There are many who, at these times, do not fail to feel some of the choices are unfair. But, in a process in which, democratically, four decision levels participate, having more than 80 percent approval shows a united and mobilized party to serve Portugal.
And these last two years as well as the Parliament have been essential in responding to the crisis and safeguarding democratic values.
