Green pass, so you enter Italy without checks (returning from the epicenter countries of the fourth wave). The test on the Vienna-Milan flight. VIDEO
you can travel from Austria to Italy by plane without the green pass? No, according to Italian law, which provides for the obligation of Covid certified European. And from tomorrow, December 16, a further condition will be added: negative test departing for all arrivals to Italy from EU countries, in addition to the 5-day quarantine for the unvaccinated. In fact, however, it is possible to pass the checks, access the gates, board and land at our airports without anyone asking to show the certificate. This is demonstrated by an experiment de Ilfattoquotidiano.it on a Ryanair flight Vienna-Milan on Saturday 11 December. The green pass was not verified either on departure from the Austrian airport or on arrival at Malpensa.
Yet Austria, the starting country of this journey, is now one of the hardest hit by the fourth wave of Covid. After three weeks of lockdown for everyone, starting this week the restrictive measures they remained active only for the unvaccinated, who are still many. here indeed one in three citizens has not yet received the first dose. And last weekend over forty thousand people took to the streets against the obligation to vaccinate which should come into effect on February 1st. Austria is regarded as a country of zone C. According to the order of Ministry of Health to return to Italy from this list of states, the online localization form (Plf) and submit the green certification of Covid-19. The operator of the toll-free number, contacted before leaving Vienna, confirms it: to return to Milan one must show “the vaccination certificate, recovery or the negative result of a swab”. When will it be checked? “At the time of departure and perhaps also upon arrival”Answers the phone clerk with uncertainty.
So, after making the Check in online, you arrive at the security gates of the airport of the Austrian capital. here no one asks for the green pass and after passing through the metal detector you enter the area directly gate. All around the restaurants are closed and only serve take away food. Same thing for the shops. When to start boarding procedures, the airline staff asks the ticket and the identity document. The greatest attention is paid to measure of hand luggage passengers who must be included in those provided by the flight company. And the green pass? “They will check it for you upon arrival in Italy”. But an hour and a half later, upon arrival at Malpensa, there is no check and you leave the airport without anyone having ever asked for the green pass.
But whose turn is it to check? Everyone rebounds the responsibility. From Malpensa airport they let it be known that, by Italian law, the certificate must be presented to the carrier, at the time of boarding, and to anyone who is responsible for carrying out the checks. So it was controlled in Vienna. For the Austrian airport, the verification of documents should be carried out by the airline. The responsibility for verifying who arrives at Milan airport, however, they explain from Vienna, lies with Italy. And for the airline? At the moment no response has arrived. The only certainty is that during the whole trip from Vienna to Milan no one has ever asked for the green pass.
