Florence, the mayor’s best wishes to the city: “Kindness and cooperation”
“We want to dedicate this Christmas to kindness. We see around us a lot of anger, a lot of hatred, a lot of negativity. Instead of being kind to take care of ourselves, to be patient with ourselves and with others, kindness leads us to cooperate, to to work together as this pandemic has taught us that you can’t go anywhere alone. ” This was said by the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella, in his message of good wishes to the city which this year returns to take place in the presence of the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio.
Nardella played the violin, in a performance that involved the Junior and Senior Regional School Orchestra Rete Musica Toscana and the historical procession of the Florentine Republic.
The mayor recalled that “kindness should not be exchanged for submissiveness or surrender. Many men with kindness have revolutionized the world, think for example of Gandhi, therefore kindness can go together with the radicality of values and also with the tenacity of action”. “Last Christmas – recalled the mayor – this hall was empty, we were talking in front of a camera to send greetings online. Today it is an illuminated hall full of people, a sign that this year has not passed in vain even if it is necessary to continue to the preservation of caution. The city has withstood the difficult test with awareness and a big thank you goes to all the Florentines who have faced the situation with reasonableness and lucidity “.
