de nouvelles fissures sur la flèche Saint-Michel, un périmètre de sécurité dressé
While a major restoration was planned for a long time, the state of fragility of the bell tower requires the delimitation of a security perimeter.
New cracks appeared at the end of October, beginning of November on the Saint-Michel spire, a centerpiece of Bordeaux heritage, the promise of a major renovation, indicates Olivier Cazaux, mayor of the district, during a press point organized on Place Saint -Michel, this Wednesday, December 15.
The “weakened” structure imposes, even before the construction of a monumental scaffolding, the delimitation of a security perimeter of 20 meters around the building, from this Thursday, December 16. “We are not called Madame Irma, the arrow is not going to fall. On the other hand, material could drop from 70 to 80 meters in height, which can cause great damage on arrival, ”says Patrick Della Libera, in charge of monumental heritage at the City of Bordeaux. Part of the food market will have to be redeployed on Saturday, to a location to be determined by the traders themselves.
Listed as a historical monument, the bell tower of Saint-Michel was built at the end of the 15th century.e century and equipped with a new spire culminating at more than 114 meters between 1861 and 1869. It has been closed to the public since November 2021. The restoration, which will begin in mid-2022, is estimated at 10.6 million euros. It will require the construction of a monumental scaffolding which will not rest on the tower.
