Prague – Former deputy, mayor of Prague 7 and Prague deputy Jan Čižinský (Prague Sobě) wants to lead Prague again in the municipal elections next autumn in the municipal elections (PS) and run for the post of mayor of the capital. When asked by ČTK, Čižinský said this today at an informal meeting with journalists. Prague is a so-called civic candidate who must collect the signatures of at least seven percent of the city’s population in order to run for the vote. Prague now rules itself in the metropolis together with Pirates and the United Forces for Prague (TOP 09 and STAN).
“I want to run for mayor. But we will still deal with the choice with our people in the city districts, when it will be a form of mayor,” said Čižinský.
PS now has representatives at the municipality and in Prague 1 and 7. In the future, it wants to run in about another ten city districts. To submit a candidate, they must collect the said number of signatures. “We already have 20,000 signatures and the collection is going better than before,” said Čižinský. In total, PS must obtain about 95,000 signatures by the beginning of August next year. This year, she was criticized by opposition and coalition representatives for collecting signatures in stalls in front of polling stations during the October elections to the Chamber of Deputies. Čižinský rejected the criticism.
The Prague coalition of the PS, the Pirates and the United Forces has a majority of 39 votes in the 65-member council. The ODS, which has 14 seats, won the elections in Prague in 2018. The Pirates, who have 13 deputies, finished in second place, the same number as the third in Prague and the fourth in the United Forces for Prague. YES has 12 representatives.
