The hospital must deprogram operations
The Luxembourg government announced on Tuesday evening the launch of phase 3 of the “hospital ramp-up plan”. This means a deprogramming of certain scheduled surgical interventions due to “a significant occupancy rate of intensive care and resuscitation beds by patients with Covid-19”.
According to the latest figures released Tuesday, 61 patients are treated in normal care and 26 in intensive care. “The four hospitals (CHL, Chem, CHdN and HRS) try to optimize their planning of non-urgent surgical interventions as much as possible but cannot avoid a deprogramming or a report of certain scheduled interventions that do not have a direct impact on health of the patient ”, indicates the Ministry of Health and the Federation of Luxembourg Hospitals (FHL), in a joint press release.
“Urgent interventions maintained”
However, the authorities must be reassuring to indicate that “urgent interventions will be maintained in all cases”. “The prioritization of patients to be operated on is established by mutual agreement by the doctors and surgeons of each establishment according to the indications for the operation”, the press release concludes.
Luxembourg is not the only country to face an influx of Covid patients for several weeks due to the new epidemic wave. Monday, the “white plan” was activated in hospitals in the border department of Moselle due to the saturation of intensive care and emergency services.
