Switzerland is funding US $ 21,000 for the construction of a pedestrian bridge in Dominica
The construction of the pedestrian crossing bridge in Pointe Michel will start this month.
Funding for this bridge is provided by the Swiss government in the amount of US $ 21,000. This bridge will connect hamlets in the village of Pointe Michel. The previous bridge was washed away by Hurricane Maria in 2017.
Soufrière constituency MP Denise Charles said of the day it was washed away by Hurricane Maria: “Today is an important day for the Soufrière constituency, especially for the residents of Pointe Michel.”
“After Hurricane Maria damaged the pedestrian crossing, we tried to seek help rebuilding this bridge.” She added.
The Soufrière MP thanked the Swiss government for their support for Dominica and noted that this massive donation comes after two other important projects in the Pointe Michel.
Meanwhile, Denise Charles said, while thanking the Swiss authorities, “I have to say that the Swiss government has played an important role with Dominica in coming to our aid and I appreciate your support as it has been since Hurricane Maria very interested in us achieving significant projects in the constituency. “
“Once again, they are investing twenty-one thousand dollars in building this pedestrian mall for the residents of Pointe Michel.”
It is also seen as a source of employment for the residents of Pointe Michel as it will involve more and more workers in the construction process.
The Honorary Consultant of the Swiss Embassy in Dominica, Mr. Andy Burkard, also ensured that this continued support would significantly strengthen the bilateral partnerships between the two nations.
