Swiss in the summer with six new European destinations and a comeback in India
For the summer season 2022 Swiss facility to further expand its range of flights. The airline will serve a total of 119 destinations from Zurich and Geneva, including 93 European and 26 intercontinental destinations. There are 92 destinations to choose from from Zurich and 46 from Geneva.
In European traffic, the focus is on destinations for leisure and visiting trips as well as European metropolises, in the intercontinental area the focus is on destinations in North America. Overall, Swiss plans to offer around 80 percent of the capacities of 2019 again in the course of the third quarter. From a total of 91 aircraft in the fleet, up to 59 short-haul aircraft including wet leases will be used in the coming summer flight schedule. Swiss uses up to 26 aircraft on long-haul flights.
Schweizer Werk is to offer its passengers from Zurich a choice of 66 short-haul and 26 long-haul destinations this summer. The airline is adding five new European destinations: From the end of March, Swiss will be flying to the capital of the northern Italian region Emilia-Romagna Bologna, the French Loire city of Nantes, the Bulgarian capital Sofia and the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. From July, Schweizer will also be serving the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa. The most frequented European destinations from Zurich include Berlin, Hamburg, London Heathrow and Amsterdam. Compared to the previous year, the offerings to Porto, Palermo, Tallinn and Billund in particular will be expanded the most.
In the long-haul sector, Swiss WILL place a clear focus on expanding frequencies to North America this summer. New York (JFK), Boston and Chicago will be served twice a day in the coming summer instead of once a day as last summer. In addition, Swiss WILL resume operations in the Indian cities of Delhi and Mumbai, which were suspended due to the pandemic. In addition, the Swiss Lufthansa subsidiary WILL also fly to the destination Beirut, which was opened in winter 2021, twice a week in summer. The connection to Buenos Aires via São Paulo will also be continued with two weekly flights.
Swiss is also expanding its flight program in the coming summer. In total, the airline offers its passengers 45 European destinations in addition to the long-haul New York destination. In addition to the respective Lufthansa Group offer with Brussels Airlines, there is now a direct Swiss connection in the Belgian capital, Brussels. In addition, Swiss will fly from Geneva to New York up to seven times a week. Destinations with the most flights from Geneva include London Heathrow, Athens, Lisbon, Porto and Frankfurt.
The summer flight schedule is gilded from March 27, 2022 to October 30, 2022. To make it easier to plan, it will be published in two steps. Today, December 14th, the flight plan will be published up to and including May 31st, 2022; the publication or adjustment for the period from June 1st to the end of October 2022 is scheduled for January 12th.
