Russian and Turkish military police patrolled northern Aleppo – International panorama
Aleppo / Syria /, December 14. / TASS /. The coordinated patrolling of the route in the north of the Aleppo province in Syria by the military police of the Russian Federation and Turkey, the TASS correspondent reports. During the patrol, no incidents were recorded.
Today, the main task is to conduct a coordinated patrol with the Turkish armed forces, as well as during the patrol to record the violations of the ceasefire between the warring parties and demonstrate the presence of the Russian armed forces in Syria. – the commander of the patrol platoon Vasily Nistor told reporters.
He notes that more and more messages have been appearing in the area lately, which are returning to their homes. This has been given the opportunity to avoid direct conflicts with the militants. The patrol route runs from Tell Rifaat to Tell Adjar and back.
The patrol line ran along both sides of the demarcation. The Russian convoy included two Tiger armored vehicles and one Typhoon.
In September 2015, against the background of the activation of IS (“Islamic State”, an organization banned in the Russian Federation), Russia, at the request of President Bashar al-Assad, launched a military operation in Syria against militants. A de-escalation zone was created in northwestern Syria in 2017. Since March 6, 2020, a ceasefire has been in effect there after the agreements reached between Russia and Turkey, but terrorists regularly violate the ceasefire.
Turkey has conducted three military operations in northern Syria since 2017. A security buffer zone was created between the cities of Azaz and Jerablus north of Aleppo, Afrin was occupied, and the border areas east of the Euphrates River were taken under control. Russia and Turkey agreed on joint actions to resolve the situation in the north-eastern regions of Syria. The Russian military police and the Syrian military were brought into the areas bordering the zone of the Turkish operation, the Kurdish formation was given 150 hours to free the 30-kilometer zone from the border with Turkey. The withdrawal of Kurdish units in accordance with the Sochi agreements was carried out, Turkey and Russia began joint patrols.
