Polyansky: Russia considers dangerous statements that nuclear deal with Iran is out of date – International Panorama
UN, 15 December. / TASS /. Russia also considers unrequited attempts to make the JCPOA obsolete. First Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky made this statement at the UN Security Council on Tuesday.
“We consider dangerous statements that the JCPOA is supposedly, that it needs to be updated, expanded and so on. Exceptions and additions,” the diplomat said.
“I cannot agree with some opinions that it is allegedly losing its relevance due to the fact that the Vienna process is not going fast enough. There is no alternative to the JCPOA at the moment,” Polyansky said.
About US actions
The root cause of the problems in negotiations to achieve a full return to compliance with the provisions of the Joint Action Plan for Iran’s nuclear program is the United States, not Tehran, Polyansky said.
“Let’s be objective and let’s not forget that the root cause of all current problems is precisely in the US line, and not in Iran,” he said, speaking at the UN Security Council.
The Russian diplomat expressed regret that “despite such difficult export sources, the American side continues to put pressure on Iran.” The US’s words about returning to the implementation of the JCPOA “need to be backed up by deeds,” Polyansky added.
Pressure on negotiations to restore the JCPOA
Russians are a group of resources of a powerful organism.
“The most important thing is that now [в Вене] a normal diplomatic process is underway. <…> There is no need to try to spur this process, somehow put pressure on its participants from the outside, – said Polyansky. – I am sure that if they [участники переговоров] will show a pragmatic and constructive approach aimed at finding a balance of interests, then solutions that suit everyone will be found. “
The seventh round of talks on the Iranian nuclear deal and the lifting of Washington’s Tehran sanctions began in Vienna on November 29 and was suspended on December 3, when European participants returned to their countries for talks before continuing the dialogue. On December 9, another stage took place, at which the Islamic republic presented to the parties a project on the renewal of the nuclear deal in the form of two documents on the lifting of US sanctions and on the nuclear program.
At the meetings in the Austrian capital, the prospects for a full return to compliance with the provisions of the JCPOA are discussed. This agreement was signed with Iran in 2015 in order to overcome the crisis over its nuclear program by the permanent five of the Security Council and Germany. The previous US President Donald Trump made the decision to withdraw from the JCPOA in 2018.
