Monaco, “Yedderland”, Ligue 1, crampons… Kevin Volland confides in So Foot
In a long (and funny) interview with So Foot magazine, the German striker from AS Monaco raised many topics. From his superb agreement with Wissam Ben Yedder to his adaptation to Ligue 1, here are some of his best statements.
He’s the fit man of the moment. Elected MVP twice in the last four games by fans on the AS Monaco App, against Angers (3-1) and Sturm Graz (1-1), Kevin Volland confirms that he is one of the major elements from Niko Kovac’s team. In an interview granted to So Foot magazine, available on newsstands at the moment, the 29-year-old striker reaffirmed that he had adapted very well to the Principality’s Club, which he joined in the summer of 2020 for his first experience outside Germany.
“It was the right time to take a step forward,” he explains. I was really excited to live in a new country, to discover a new culture, a new championship. And I don’t regret anything, I feel really good in Monaco. “

“Here, the players are faster and stronger”
Despite impressive statistics (66 games, 25 goals and 15 assists), the former Bayer Leverkusen striker needed a little adaptation time on his arrival, to apprehend a new championship. A period that he recounts with the humor that characterizes him. “With hindsight, I would say that in Germany the overall level is a little higher, that more cleanly, while in France you have to adapt to five-man defenses and long balls. “
“On the other hand, here, the players are faster and stronger. In the Bundesliga, I was one of the most athletic players in the championship, but there… I still have Nicolas Pallois’ crampons tattooed on the ankle… And yet in a Nantes match at the beginning of August! “
“With Wissam, we are well found”
In the Top 3 of the most decisive attacking trios in Ligue 1 this season with Sofiane Diop and Wissam Ben Yedder, with 26 achievements in which at least one of them is involved (goals or assists), Kevin Volland details also his almost instinctive bond with his captain, the second member of the now famous “Yedderland”, who has found the net 49 times in Ligue 1 since the start of last season.

“With Wissam, we are well found. He has monstrous qualities, he is there when you search and when you find in the area, it is often decisive. (…) It is said a lot that I play double-ended with Wissam, but that’s not the case. I am more behind him, my function can be interpreted as a false number nine position. I can also play like Golo, Sofiane, like 8, like 10. In short, it’s not clearly defined, but I see this versatility as a strength rather than a weakness. “
