I do not know of a single person who does not know the unmistakable buildings of Dušan Samuel Jurkovič. Especially those in Pustevny and probably most in Luhačovice. Jurkovič specialized in folk style and thanks to that he was a very popular architect. In 1947, he became the first Czechoslovak architect to become a national artist.

In December, it is always open on weekends in Jurkovič’s villa, more information can be found here.
Jurkovič’s villa was built at the beginning of the twentieth century. It uniquely combines elements of British and Viennese modernism with folklore inspirations. In addition to the massive stone entrance loggia, the most characteristic elements of the house were the wooden carved gate and the glass mosaic with the motif of the fairy tale Bača and the dragon on the front façade. On the first floor, Jurkovič set up a study and an guest room was accessible from the gallery of the hall. In the basement there was a caretaker’s apartment, technical facilities and cellars. Architect Jurkovič and his wife and three sons lived in the house in Žabovřesky until 1919. At that time, he sold it and the surrounding lands and moved to Bratislava. (Source: moravska-galerie.cz)
